Liquid Poetry: Never Surrender

I have come so far
Living life as it unfolds
No doors were left ajar
Never felt left out in the cold

One day everything changed
No warning, no words said
To the edge of darkness I plunged
Lifeless like a deserted thread

Woke up on the other side
Numb to the world, lost lucidity
Freedom to live, forever denied
Now lying in dire rigidity

Still the positive will shine above the fear
Do not surrender, be in the moment
In bouts of sadness, the good reappears
Be strong and take hold of the flame

Everyday is worthy of reflections
All you have done carries weight
Begin to weave a new fabric of action
Soar again, return to flight

All seen and unseen remains
A bad deck of cards dealt without notice
Strive to win the hands, never in vain
Stay steady, arise to a new beginning

A radiant lotus you can become again
The best is yet to appear
Be resilient with your heart and mind
There will be no more misery, no more tears

Still the positive will shine above the fear
Do not surrender, be in the moment
In bouts of sadness, the good reappears
Be strong and take hold of the flame

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, I arrived in America at seven years old as a war refugee in 1975. I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy, happily married with two grown children, and I reside in Colorado. A horrific injury in 2014 forever altered the course of my life, leaving me an incomplete quadriplegic. Yet even through this unexpected journey, I have learned that living fully in the present can remain fruitful, joyous, and deeply meaningful. To be human is to show kindness to one another. Let go of fear, prejudice, and desire, and awaken to each moment with gratitude for the profound gift of life. Turn to the people beside you and all around you, and project your inner being outward—be good to yourself and to others. We are all woven from the same fabric; may we surround one another with unconditional love, support, and warmth of heart. Our time on Earth is precious and deserves to be embraced with immense gratitude. Visit our PT practice at manualtherapyassociates.com
