Liquid Poetry: Dearest Adrian

Upon waking up every morning, vivid thoughts I have
Who entered my life can be so precious, so endearing?
The feeling of how beautiful this being is awashes me
It is you, my son, for whom I am grateful to be born

Fully loving someone is infinite, no timeline to meet
A baby boy smiling perpetually, eyes beaming with wonder
Your early growth brings excitement, moments of awe
It is you, my son, for whom I am blessed to shoulder

Caressing you in my arms brings unmatched warmth
Showered by irresistible sunshine, lasting to comfort me
For all seen and unseen are heartfelt without a lapse
It is you, my son, for whom I am honored to be given

I take a step, you take two, three when in great joy
How wonderful that is to behold, to embrace, to adore
Always at my side, going along with whatever flows
It is you, my son, for whom I am happy to hold tight

Shooting stars enter our consciousness, a rare sighting
Must I say absent of hesitation, you are one of them
Be humble, stay motivated, show unfiltered kindness
It is you, my son, for whom I am lucky to see blossom

When facing tension, your aptitude of calmness prevails
A spirit showing grace under pressure, a golden quality
Everything you do and apply, such an inner drive I see
It is you, my son, for whom I am proud to have around

Whenever you are in need, a threshold away I stand
Never worry, for my receptive ears are yours to capture
Have passion, know you can be better today than yesterday
It is you, my son, for whom I am granted to belove

Your intellect, compassionate self have unlimited miles
Gifts worthy of witnessing, invaluable to not overlook
Reveal belief in your efforts, all meant to be rewarded
It is you, my son, for whom I am elated to see mature

Be who you are, the goodness in your heart is pure
A precious life to fulfill, reach its zenith with fervor
So beautiful at birth, an amazing man you have become
It is you, my son, for whom have made me whole

Love, Dad

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, I arrived in America at seven years old as a war refugee in 1975. I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy, happily married with two grown children, and I reside in Colorado. A horrific injury in 2014 forever altered the course of my life, leaving me an incomplete quadriplegic. Yet even through this unexpected journey, I have learned that living fully in the present can remain fruitful, joyous, and deeply meaningful. To be human is to show kindness to one another. Let go of fear, prejudice, and desire, and awaken to each moment with gratitude for the profound gift of life. Turn to the people beside you and all around you, and project your inner being outward—be good to yourself and to others. We are all woven from the same fabric; may we surround one another with unconditional love, support, and warmth of heart. Our time on Earth is precious and deserves to be embraced with immense gratitude. Visit our PT practice at manualtherapyassociates.com
